Testimonials - Katya's Clients Speak I asked some of the families that birthed with me to write their experiences. I used 2-3 sentences from each testimonial, not changing it in any way. I want to thank all the parents for taking their time and writing such beautiful letters! If you are interested in talking to these parents first-hand, please do not hesitate to let me know.
A letter a family in the Stony Brook, NY area - both mom and dad are working on their postdocs in mathematics as well as having their first baby boy
Katya was extremely helpful during the end of my pregnancy, throughout labor, and postpartum. She helped us to choose the best hospital and find a midwifery practice in our area. She provided us with lots of useful information, and always had answers to our questions. Her support during labor was invaluable.
She helped me relax and feel better, both physically and emotionally. Katya also made several postpartum visits, and addressed all of our concerns about breastfeeding and pumping.
Katya made herself completely available, and was than generous with her time, and went way beyond what we expected of her. We are very grateful to Katya for being our Doula, and strongly recommend her to all expectant parents. This mom is a nutrition consultant who knew the importance of breastfeeding, but had some issues in the first couple of weeks. The birth went beautifully, though!
My husband and I are very happy with our decision to have Katya as our doula. She played a very important part in successfully accomplishing my goal of going through labor and delivery drug free. As first time parents we were also grateful to have a knowledgeable advocate on our side during the hospital procedures. Katya was always professional and courteous and gave us enough space to have our first experience with childbirth be as private as possible. Even after the birth, she was always available when we needed her and at times went above and beyond what we expected, especially when it came to breast feeding support. We would recommend her to anyone looking for a doula to help with this very special time in your life of pregnancy and parenthood.
This is a letter from my 2nd client. She teaches English, and it shows in her impeccable writing style!
My plan was to have a natural birth in a traditional hospital setting, and Katya was integral in helping me learn about the various procedures that I hoped to avoid. She coached me in various “what-if” scenarios, like what to expect if I needed an epidural. I found that it is much more effective to object to a hospital procedure if you are educated about why it is a standard procedure. Katya also assisted me in preparing a concise and comprehensive birth plan.
Once I was in labor, it was difficult for me to stand up for my desires. I was in a lot of pain and very exhausted. Katya was my voice to the hospital staff. She tended to all of my needs. I was very satisfied with the labor and delivery. I endured 17 hours of labor without pain medication. I am proud of myself, and thankful that Katya was there to advocate for me.
My significant other did not like seeing me in so much pain. He had attended birthing classes with me, but he wasn’t prepared for the harsh reality of labor. It was imperative to have Katya there, because she had an objective and experienced view of labor.
A letter from a family in Indiana that worked with me within the bounds of the Community North Hospital Family Services
My son just turned 1 year old and Katya was there with my husband and me during labor and birth. It was great to have someone there who was devoted to us and truly cared how we felt about what was going on. She took time to explain and helped me to ask the right questions of the doctor. She helped Bret know what to say to me and how to help me though contractions. She even helped with guests that came to visit during my labor. When my doctor finally said I needed a C-Section I nearly came unglued. Katya was there to help me (us) through that too! She took pictures during the surgery that I cherish today! Thank you Katya for being our doula!
I have decided to include 2 letters that I received for helping moms that were geographically remote over the internet:
From a fun and clever mom in Canada
I am Registered Nurse BA with experience in newborn and children as well as in women’s health care during pregnancy and afterworlds. I also delivered babies my self.
…BUT when I got pregnant with my SECOND child, I found myself with a lot of questions. First of all, Katya was very supportive. Her knowledge also amazed me. She always had answers to all my questions.
Examples: 34 weeks: I thought, that I’m going to have premature delivery (according to my symptoms). Katya wrote to me, that according to those symptoms, in her opinion, I’m not going to give birth before 38 weeks. She was right.
40 weeks: In the hospital, doctor wanted to “help” with medications (Oxytocin) and rapture of the membranes. I left the hospital. Even so, that I wanted my delivery to be natural, and I have previous bad experience with Oxytocin, I was not sure if my decision was rite. According to the symptoms, that I presented, Katya wrote to me, that delivery will start on it’s own. I had an easy delivery, since it started on it’s own.
What was important to me was that Katya accepted and supported my point of view, even if it was different from her personal point of view.
I’m very grateful to Katya for her help during my pregnancy and delivery.
This letter is from a mom in Texas who is also a biomedical researcher
I spent quite some time reading _ru-perinatal_ and _malyshi_ before my second child birth. The delivery went extremely well - I think, in big part because all the knowledge I acquired about birth process and various scenarios of it. I shall say, that about 80% of this information came from Katya. So, in most situations in my pregnancy when I could have had a question, I already knew an answer(s) by the time. In a second trimester I had a flu with fever, weakness and all that... It was reassuring to hear from Katya that flu virus does not cross placenta. She always not just mention something, but supply references to corresponding source of info (research articles, etc.). I really respect that. I think, she will make a wonderful doula. If I would had a chance to hire her for my delivery, I certainly would have done so. |
